Car insurance comparison sites

Why should you consider using car insurance comparison sites?

These days there are a variety of car insurance comparison sites available online. Many have become household names that we all recognise from the brands that they have built up - mainly through television. The leading sites include the one apparently run by Meercats, a singing man with a moustache and a cartoon character of a girl singing about finding somebody to love.

Putting the brand and the gimmicks to one side for a minute - have you ever considered why these car insurance comparison sites are so successful and so busy?

The main reason that you should continue using them - is that prices for car insurance change on a daily basis. An insurance company or broker that would have been good for you one day - can change their prices at the stroke of a computer mouse - and suddenly not be so good. Actually nowadays, they have computers that change their prices for them!

There are insurance companies advertising on tv now - with the sole aim of trying to get you to go direct and not use a comparison website. The more cynical amongst us would think that the reason they would do this is that they don't want their prices to be seen side-by-side against their competitors.Link

Another good reason, is that they don't want to pay commission to the price comparison websites in between you and them. This would be all well and good if they passed on the saving to the customer, but you can't be sure that this is the case unless you have compared their price with everyone else's.

Car Insurance for less than Cost!

When car insurance is sold through a broker - they have to pay the insurance company the base cost of the policy. The broker is then free to add on whatever he or she wants, to determine the total cost to the customer. As competition has increased over the years, many brokers have got wise to the fact they they can sell add-ons to their customers (think breakdown cover, green card for driving abroad etc). So, the more customers that they have, the more of a captive audience they have for the extras.

Some insurance brokers have wanted to produce such keen prices for you to move your insurance to them, that they have actually removed their commission from the initial car insurance sale altogether. Occasionally a few go even further, and use their overall commission income to reduce the base cost of the insurance. So, they will actually sell you the car insurance policy for less than what they have to pay the insurance company for it!
